Professor Holger Nehring

A specialist in post-1945 German and British history, Holger has a particular interest in the history of social activism, the Cold War (in particular the role of logistics and infrastructure in northern Europe), and the history of war and peace in Europe. Having come to Stirling via Oxford (where he was a Rhodes scholar and then held a Junior Research Fellowship at St Peter’s College) and Sheffield, Holger has held a number of visiting positions at the University of Oslo/ the Norwegian Nobel Peace Institute; the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris, the Mershon Center for International Security Studies, Ohio State University, and at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor as well as Stanford University.

Apart from working on the history of paradiplomacy and regionalism in the UK, Holger is the Co-Investigator of a major AHRC grant on ‘Materialising te Cold War‘, together with Dr Sam Alberti at National Museums Scotland.
